Hey Everyone. Just a heads up, White Juan 2 is heading into my corner of the world and it may result in power outages. They are advising the public to grab 3 days of food and water supply to have on hand. I was at the grocery store and it was packed, and I mean PACKED worst than Christmas.
If that does happen, I do apologize and I will check in when I can with updates, but right now businesses are stating they will be closed tomorrow. My store is still on a wait to see, but as it stands if it starts snowing everyone is staying home which means they'll have to close regardless. I mostly wanted my competitions I am hosting and am in to know as well as my Flip it to Win it Challenge in Gift Gathering as well as anyone who lurks my blog. They are calling this the worst storm in 10 years.

Hey Everybody!
So at work we started a Wellness Challenge. It's about eating your veggies, exercising, sleeping well, and drinking plenty of water. We get points in each of the categories by completing them each day. Right now I am on Day 3 and I will be updating my emilyskitchen.weebly.com website (link is on the side as well) with my progress each day. Feel free to stop by, check it out, give words of encouragement. The Challenge is not apart of the main blog. The Challenge goes until March 29th! I've also got some lovely recipes (though not all of them are healthy) on the website as well! That's what I want to do. I've just been too down/unmotivated to actually play. I've been spending loads of time looking for a new place to live. I think I found something. I'm going to check it out later tonight. Just have a couple of hours to kill first.
I forgot to mention I had a really nice time with my dad when he was visiting, and I am holding on to something that belonged to my great grandfather, so I was having a bit of a WHOA! feeling. It did make me miss my grandpa though. He was the only grandpa I had, cuz I do not count my step-grandfather as anything more than a perverted sleazeball. Anyway, Grandpa was AWESOME! He was so kind and fair and loving. Sometimes I wish he was here to talk to him. I never got to have any grown up conversations with him and I know he would have been the type of person that would have helped to mold me into the person I am/could be. Things at work are going pretty good. A few hiccups here and there but I'm trying to handle all the new responsibility and the added amount of associates. I am actually training one of my girls in my first department to take the reins a bit. She's doing such a fantastic job (as they all are) so I couldn't be more proud of my department. The new department I have is going to take more work, but I can handle it. My birthday's also coming up. In a few weeks I'll be 32. There are things that I want to accomplish and things I had hoped to accomplish and it's just funny to reflect and realize how quickly things can change. That starting on one path can lead you into a totally opposite or new direction. When I was in high school, we had gotten this agenda that had an envelope that was kind of like a time capsule. I had looked at it a few years ago and I realized how trivial the contents were. I think it would be nice to do something like that again. Not to mention taking up writing again. I used to write poetry all the time and stories and really, when is the last time I ever mentioned it? I dug out these old books I had. I think I'd really like to give it another go. I had always wanted to publish my novel or a collection of my own poetry. Then of course there is my simming time. I haven't even properly played Island Paradise lately or done photo shoots for my own enjoyment and to keep my editing skills up as well. I've been trying to figure out a way to get prints of some of my photos on the kiosk at the store using my USB, and nothing. It'd be nice to hang some of them. Still baking too. I made these smores cookies and rocky road squares. Work LOVED them lol, and some want the recipe or for me to make them this or that. If I could, I would open a little service to sell my baked goods, but our health regulations state no personal kitchens can be used for selling goods. Although something to think about 30 some years down the line when I am ready to retire. For any long time reader of this blog or when SimsSanctuary was open, I have been trying to get healthier and more active. And trying to overcome and re-strengthen my legs through exercise and my custom insoles. The cold winter months have really put a damper on the exercise part, so now I am focusing on making better eating choices, and putting those recipes on my new blog.
I would have done it here, but as I am linking people from RL to it, I opted for a separate blog. This site is just for me. It's MY getaway from RL stuff I don't or can't share with people I know because I don't feel they can be supportive. And no one really gets the Sims 3 and is as active in it as I am. yes, I know one person who plays the game in RL, but as she is someone I work with and this is a retreat, I am not giving her my site address or screen name. As this is the only time I will be mentioning Emily's Kitchen, you can link to it from the blog sidebar or view it here! The site is still under construction, but I do have two posts up. It was the Mare's Post that actually reminded me that I was going to do an after-thought here on my blog in regards to the Same Sex Couples? thread that I posted in recently on the Officials.
I can honestly say I am damned proud to be a Canadian. And more proud to have parents that have always taught me to respect the choices of others, as long as those choices doesn't hurt anyone. It is unrealistic to expect huge corporations, especially one that deals with a game or social media, to actively promote something that most people, to this day, still feel uncomfortable about. I think the biggest break through I have ever seen that was an in your face, ground breaker that shook things up was: Queer as Folk, the American/Canadian version. There is a British Version as well, and I tried to get into watching it, but I found the whole thing to be "Meh!" The American/Canadian version (American production but filmed in the hub of Canadian Gay Society: Toronto, Ontario.) To me, QAF BROKE through the lines and as I was a university student at the time, it was a well watched show and it was something that we could admire and feel for the characters. A friend of mine in Uni told me she was a lesbian and was telling people one at a time. She was SCARED to tell us and SCARED that we would turn our backs on her. It was touching and emotional and it SHOULDN'T be that HARD. People shouldn't feel afraid to express themselves because they are different. FFS, WE ALL ARE! Now, I have a cousin, and I was only told about this recently mind you. One of my great Uncles has a son (I had NO idea until mom told me.) And apparently he's Gay and has a partner. The thing is, the reason why I never met him, is because he has been ostracized by the family, by his own father. And that is sad. I have a cousin I never met, because my mom's fucking family don't associate with him. My mom is very liberal, her mother is a real piece of work sometimes. She was a true tyrannical Matriarch. As long as you toed the line HER way, it was all peaches. The moment you stepped off HER path, she became a right ol' bitch. And I LOVE my Grandmother, but I don't agree with how she treats people, how she treats family. Canada is one of only a few nations that are more forward thinking and more liberal (more open-minded). And though we don't live in a perfect society here in Canada where thing don't go haywire, I say again I am proud to be a Canadian. Just take a look at this as quoted from wikipedia: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights in Canada are the most advanced in the Americas. LGBT Canadians have most of the same legal rights as non-LGBT citizens, and are extended more legal rights than many other nations where homosexuality is legal. Since 2005, Canada has offered civil marriage rights nationwide to same-sex couples. Canada was the third nation in the world where same-sex marriages were legally performed (commencing in 2003 in the province of Ontario), the fourth nation in the world to perform same-sex marriages nationwide, the first nation in the Americas to perform such marriages nationwide, and performed the first ever legally recognized same-sex marriage in the world (performed January 14th 2001 and legally upheld June 10th 2003 in court). So despite the drama queens, attention whores, and the "Not Good enough EA, you should do more!" I applaud your efforts EA in being as forward thinking as you can be in a society that took several steps back with Proposition 8. And this After-thought has become more of a novel, so I shall stop there before I go off on another rant over Prop 8. (Disgusting!) Luckily the power hadn't gone out once, though the internet was wonky for most of the day and the house was a bit cold. Soo Happy I have a space heater in my room.
The Blizzard is set to continue until morning so it is not over yet. And due to the blowing snow, there are drifts 1-2 feet deep as of roughly 6pm. I'll post an update later as I want to get back into playing my Castaways. Well so far one good thing is no work. The Blizzard of 2013 is here and it's only the beginning so far as this is supposed to go into Sunday. As Promised I will post updates as long as I don't lose power. I am going back to bed for a bit I think and then I'm gonna play my Castaway Challenge and post an update on it later tonight (as long as I have power). I will also post more piccies of outside as it worsens or lessens (worsens).
Take a look at the night before (just before midnight) and early this morning (just after 6:30am) Yup, a DOUBLE storm System is due to hit my area here in Canada at midnight tonight. Just about 5 hours away. It's been friken cold all day. The Storm system that is currently on the East Coast in the Boston area is making its way here and the storm in Toronto that is the worst they have seen since 2008 is also heading its way here which means they are going to MERGE and land down on the Maritmes (the Atlantic region). It is supposed to be as bad as White Juan.
I am supposed to work tomorrow morning but that may be a write off depending on weather conditions (the store will most likely close as not many of us live IN the capital but on it's outskirts). Luckily I live on the main residential road in town so my road will be one of the first plowed and salted. For everyone living on the East Coast (US or Canada) stay safe and don't go outside if you don't have to. I'll definitely be staying home tomorrow if it's really bad (may have to if cabs aren't running anyway and for some odd reason they open the store). Part of me hopes it will fizzle out and lose some of it's power before it hits here. Part of me is very skeptical that that is even a possibility. I am charging my phone and if the power does not go out, I will post updates with how bad it looks outside. if you don't hear from me, assume the power has gone out. Just a quick note that my laptop is broken. I will be back to simmin as soon as it is fixed. Had to work something out with the manager as it's a few months out of the service plan.
I meant to say that earlier when I was doing up the thread on the officials and Unbound for the Canada Day tees and tanks I released on the LE Style Custom Content Blog. Click more^^ to go to the blog.
I'll be working all weekend and all week, as I have a store audit to prepare for by the 13th as well as hire a new employee before the 15th soooo . . .I'm gonna be very busy and prolly won't be around too much anywhere. I had 3 days off this week because of the stat, but now it looks like I will be in at work everyday. If I have time, I may do up some fourth of July tees, just leave a comment with piccies you want to use, kinda like my Canada Day tees, and I will see what I can do. I'll choose the four best, png files only. HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!! and celebrate a bit for me hehe. |
